Frostbike was conceived late November, 2008. Like hundreds of nights, Chris and Carrie were brainstorming ways to get people riding year-round. The biggest obstacle here in St. Louis (aside from few bike lanes), is the upredictable winter weather (or fall, spring, and summer weather, for that matter). Chris, being driven by a sense of competition and financial reward, thought up the pay-up-front-get-back-each-week concept that was instituted…

We’ve moved away from that model, mostly because it was an administrative nightmare, but the roots are still there. If you’re riding, so am I. And successfully riding when you didn’t think you could is incredibly empowering.
